Subject: Is it just me?? Or am I OLD??

This might seem like a stupid question.. (but you might be getting used to those out of me by now too..)

BUT.. I have noticed a FEW of the members here must be KIDS!  Now I am not OLD by my standards, only 35, but Scotty (totally funny guy btw)  he mentioned he didn't have a checking account cause he was only a KID.    (unless he was joking?!)

Now.. I just read a post where BoRg said he was a student..  WHAT???  a STUDENT??  so I went on a search.. found the "About Us" link.. and there it is.. a picture of a KID.. (or a VERY young looking MAN?!)

What's up with this you guys?  Am I one of the OLDEST / Newbies here??    what a complex this gives me when KIDS have to help their seniors..

because seniors haven't been using computers long enough. Lets see i've been using computers since i was 4 in pre school and that was, let's see, about 10 years ago... and i don't have a checking account either so chill. And since when is a young student not allowed to run a website, Bruce doesn't look that young (no offense). I don't think 35 is really that old, but don't ask me... i'm only 14

OH.. it just never ceases to amaze me that kids are learning earlier and earlier.  I didn't even use a computer till I was out of highschool, and that was, umm.. in 1985 (4 years before your birth

I just assumed (incorrectly) that everyone here was simular in age to me.  I guess it comes from a life of always being the youngest in everything.. but then you grow up, and no longer are you the "baby" everywhere you go.

Ok.. now I just really got depressed cause I just equated your age, to my oldest daughters age.. she just turned 10!!  Your only 4 years older then her!!

And anyone of any age can do anything they want.. but when I see "companies" like this, I don't automatically assume a kid runs it all.  But guess it's no different then going to the doctor these days and having them be 10 years my junior.

And glad you don't think 35 is old.. i'll tell you, I never FELT old till about umm.. THIS MORNING!

MORE POWER to the kids!! (yes, you ARE a kid to me.. )  cause us 'oldies' have to have someone to teach us..

I am 17 and have been making sites and developing in various languages for over 5 years - I have done this whilst running a sound & light rental company that I started when I was 12

i started my earning of $$ when i was 15
i always had back account and master card ever since i was 16.. forget about that they ever had enough money in them

Well you guys aren't helping my "old age complex" here.

I'll tell you, in my 'day and age'.. I grew up fast, left home at 18, supported myself on a secretary job.  And THAT was an accomplishment for my era.  Now I see some that are in 'business' at 12 & 15.. gee..at 12 I was still climbing trees and riding dirt bikes.

Ok.. I know there is SOMEONE here who has GOT to be at least my age.. or perhaps I am the only "smart oldie" there is that is willing to learn something new at this age?

Gee.. I am starting to feel like the MOM of the forum here..

Oh.. and to "THE BOSS"  you said you started earning $$ at 15.. so was that just a couple years ago??

and KCWebMonkey ~ ROFL .. that was too funny.. cause I STILL don't 'get' that picture!  I look and look.. and it makes NO SINCE TO ME.. so yes.. it was a bit funny to see BoRgs pic.  but I have to ask.. you must have been here awhile as you are now a bonified SENIOR member with 490 posts to your name.. was today the first day you have seen that picture??   am I the only one that was curious about this stuff??  guess that might just come with my old age?!

whittibo, I'm not sure, but I don't think that picture has always been on the "About Us" page...if it has, then I guess I just forgot

As far as the bonified senior thing, I think when bruce switched the forum over to version 7 he gave most of the active members "senior member" status.

and michael, I aint too far behind ya! But always remember this: No matter how old you get...I'm younger than you!

It looks like I AM the oldest here.    Just don't start calling me MA'M ok!

Well.. at least it appears that I am in good company here.  And heck.. what 'old lady' wouldn't want to be surounded by super intelligent young(er) men, that have jobs no less..  OH.. and credit cards and check books..

Ok.. here's where you young hansome men can cure my old lady complex.. by telling me that THIS..

does NOT look like an OLD LADY..

(hey.. if BoRg can show his pic.. then so can I.. besides, I am hoping all your moms have taught you manors and how to give a lady a compliment..)

No you don't look old at all. I would say not a day over 24...buts thats just me.

To me it is a blessing to have someone of your age group take an interest in trying to understand different computer technologies. It really upsets me when I am at work and I go to help someone and they proceed to tell me computers are stupid, its like, thanks for telling me the thing I have invested my life in and am going to school for is just something stupid and frivolous.

So whittibo I appluad you, you are doing more then a lot of people I know who are 35 or even a bit younger.

you are too sensitive whittibo, you are always talking about age...

I suggest to make a new poll... put you photo on it..., and let the question be: How old am I?:

and the answers:

1- Under 20 (lol)
2- between 20 and 24
3- between 24 and 29
4- Under 30

I am sure no one can dare saying you are over 30...

btw.. does your husband read this forum?

well THANK YOU zMaestro!  I feel much better.. oh.. and NO, my darling husband has no clue how to run a computer..   (all the better for me so we don't have to take turns with it)   I asked him to turn down my speakers one day, and he couldn't even do that..

Hey Pam.. at least we aren't alone here in the "Ma'am" catagory!  besides.. doesn't that give us some sort of special consideration over all these young kids?!

LOL this is all sooooo funny how the computer changes peoples perception of things, yeap maddog is 16, whittibo before seeing your photo etc i always thought u was MALE, hahahaha jokes on me lol and not for the first time, and NO (a real big NO ) you dont look your age, well done babe, neither do i, unless people ask me they have no idea i'm 38, nor do i act 38 either, im into heavy metal,(first saw OZZY live in a gig over 20 years ago before he looked wasted) my hair is bright red and spikey (red as in the primary colour, nothing natural about it at all), i hold a full bike licence a ride a 1000 cc bike, have tatoo's, and keep around 70 reptiles in my house ranging upto a 17ft burmese python.

OH yeah and no wrinkles, not even a grey hair yet, youngsters of the world beware us old folk are secretly infiltrating and you dont even know it, hahahahaha.

Whittibo keep up the good work babe, bet your other half has a few wrinkles or grey hairs?

Date Posted: 27 July 2003 at 8:18am

OH PAM..

First of all.. MALE?!    boy.. when I read that I thought?  what MALE is named Bonnie?!  BUT, now that I look, I see I don't have my 'real' name in my signature line!  HOW FUNNY!  guess I would have assumemed male too, since it seems you and I are the only FEmales here?!

Oh and BOY does my 'better half' have wrinkles and grey hair.. WHEW.. he is only 38 and man.. in the 18 years I have known him.. he sure has aged!

now the bad part.  I am just a typical boring housewife with 3 young girls (that I HOPE won't play with snakes when they get older )  I stay at home, and homeschool them, not that I am all that smart.. but just with the way society is these days, I don't want the schools to corupt them   (it's also my controlling nature to.. well.. um.. control them.  I just make myself feel better by saying it's my way of "protecting them".)

I have no snakes, although my girls don't hesitate to pick them up, oh.. and I guess I should say, I tried to shoot a snake last week!  guess that gives me a "THAT'S COOL" star.   (it was a 4' rattle snake that my kitten was playing with)

As you can see, my hair is plain.  I did get highlights recently, but the lady kinda screwed up.  Oh.. and a motorcycle.. well.. I have BEEN on one before.. does that count?!

and really the only reason I am here at WWF is because someone talked me into building a forum (because of the mean old lady that ran our last one ~ nobody liked her)  but I never used a computer till I think 5 years ago.  and the only way that I learn anything is when someone makes me get out of my box.   kinda talks me into something, and then I have to try.

OHH.. I want to get my nose pierced.. can I have another "THAT'S COOL" point?  I doubt that I will do it because, again, let me remind you that I am only a boring old house wife with 3 young daughters..

and MadDog 16.. BLOWS MY MIND!    All of this stuff does really.  and yes, the computer changes ones perspective.  I would never have guessed you on a bike with snakes around you with red spikey hair..

I wish I looked younger then what I really am....I'm only 21 and people are always saying that I look like I'm around 27 - 29 ish. I suppose this has its advantages, but is kind of degrading at times.

whittibo, you have inflicted the right punch here. I am 34 and half, with no bank balance, no job or social security etc etc. And obviously, it has to do with the kind of equation that one develops with the environment. Having lived peacefully, I never ever had a feeling about my own age. Yet, the girl next door is compelling me these days, to rethink about this whole matter. She has recently turned up to be 20 and has begun conveying a great keenness for my presence. The empty coffers however, often force me to go down in to an introspection and then feel the extent of baldness that my scalp had developed! One has to complement though, about the whiz kids in the WWG forum here. Their depth of knowledge and involvement often inspires the novice web designer of my kind.

Oh Proaudience.. you really should be a writer instead of a "novice web designer".. haven't seen your sites.. but boy.. that post was very deep!  You could write romace novels based on your life.. and this 20 year old girl next door!!   bet that bank account wouldn't have a zero balance for long!!

Well! I am a writer anyway, and the web-designing thing is just eyewash. Check out the following url:

http://www.rsintheatre.com/ - http://www.rsintheatre.com/

This is the only site that I have designed till this date.

Also check the link:

http://www.rsintheatre.com/paperbacks/fiction1.htm - http://www.rsintheatre.com/paperbacks/fiction1.htm

This says things about the 20-year-old lady of my neighborhood. However, I feel comfortable in Hindi--India's first language, hence you will have to bear with my bad English account!

Finally, when I joined WWG as a member around an year ago, it was surprising to find very few females being part of the discussions here. The things have obviously changed as one can see you calling the shots in this particular thread!

Well, I do.  whittibo you're a mere child ... and a babe!  You're three thumbs up in my book!   Oh wait a minute, you're a mother as well!  Ok, one more.

42 here, last March and I don't feel a day over 41!

When I was working at BellSouth, I went to retirement party for a co-worker.  When asked if he had any words of wisdom for us "youngsters", his reply was priceless as usual.

"When I was 20, I worried about what everyone was thinking about me.  When I was 40, I didn't give a d about what people thought about me.  Then I turned sixty and found out that all of those years...  no one was thinking about me.  "

So "enjoy life", "don't sweat the small stuff" and remember "every day in every way, we're getting better and better."  I running out of cliches here, so I'll stop while I'm still behind.

I don't think you look all that old!

I truely thank you all for indulging in my "am I old" pity party.. this has been a lot of fun.. as well as informative!  how else would we have learned about Pam and her snakes and that MadDog is only 16!!  and heck.. my self esteem just went up about 100%

I'm 38 and started using computers when I was 14.  Started with BASIC and worked my way up.  Now mostly do stats using SPSS but am learning ASP thanks to this site and Drew's.

I usually work as a health educator and a few years back registered my own domain and recently popped up these forums there.  I currently live on a little tiny island and do computer training (mostly education) for young and old alike.

Young being 5+ and old being 75+.  It's fun, I enjoy it and my rates are really, really flexible given the population I work with and I see many, many young people (range 3 month to 15 years, n = 46).

All of them use computers well depending on their ages.

The oldies too.

It's those my age I see struggling.

Infants! all of ya!

53 here. Been in computing since I was 19. Worked for a telco setting up the internet before it was the internet - Arpanet back then. Been a hoot to see how it's dominated the world in 20 years. First Personal computer was a PET/4 - the 4 stands for 4kb of ram.

BTW, The highest demographic of internet users is under 20. A close second, is people over 55. You can't walk into a senior center in the US and not see people on the net. They also tend to have disposable incomes to buy computers with.

I've seen Drew's - a.k.a. Madddog's - picture. If he's 16, it's been a hard 16 years
