Glad I registered last night. They are saying 108 people are registering per second. So much that the website is hard to access. Also when I registered the confirmation email was received within seconds. They said today that it was taking up to an hour to receive the confirmation email.

As of 8am Hawaii time there were almost 500,000 registered phone numbers in the FTC Do Not Call Database!!!!

It will only be active on the West Coast in July. The East Coast has to wait until September-October. So says the news bit about it yesterday.

this list sounds all useless bcuz 99.82 ppl dont want to recive stupid spam telmarketing calls. they rather make a law which prohibits making telemarkeing calls without a solid proof of how did they accquire the phone number and a permission that the phone number owner granted them to make telemarketing phone calls on  his/her number,,

Holy Cow! As of Monday June 30, 2003

DO NOT CALL REGISTRATIONS
EXCEED 10 MILLION

Since the Do Not Call Registry was launched on Friday, June 27, consumers have registered more than 10 million telephone numbers. “Consumer response has been enthusiastic,” commented Federal Trade Commission Chairman Timothy J. Muris. “The highest sustained system access we’ve seen occurred Friday evening between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT when an average of 158 telephone numbers were entered into the system per second.”

On Friday, seven million telephone numbers were logged into the system; Saturday the number slowed to 4.6 million; and Sunday the number was two million. The majority, 85 percent of the registrations, have occurred online – a process that requires consumers to confirm and complete their registrations by clicking on their Do Not Call confirmation e-mail. Currently, more than three million consumers have sent a registration request to www.donotcall.gov but have not clicked on the response e-mail and confirmed their registration. Consumers are reminded that to register their numbers with the Do Not Call Registry, they must finish the registration process.

I registered my phone number one night. I got the confirmation email pretty quickly that night. I did the registration after 1 a.m. EST.

So I was reading that due to the overwhelming amount of people that were interested in the "Do not call list" that this may lead to a "Do not spam list". I don't think the spam list would work as good, but it's a start I guess!
