Subject: Cookies question

I need the WW forum to not distribute cookies to viewers.

Is this possible, to turn off the cookies or have them expire at a set time, either in the ASP code or on the IIS server hosting the forum?

Thanks

X

The forum has to have cookies to run otherwise it is impossibel to track users.

If you set no expiry date on cookies then they will expire as soon as the browser is shut down or within 20 minutes of leaving the site which ever is sooner.

OK. That's cool. Where do I set no expiry on the cookies?

Let me rephrase.

Allowing cookies is fine, but I need them to disappear immediately or after a set period of users leaving the forum. I've watched my cookies section carefully. The cookies get created but they don't expire. I can't find any docs on how to make the forum or ASP delete those cookies.

Because of possible privacy sensitivity issues, I'm surprised that I can't find an answer to this.

You need to go through the entire forum looking for where any cookies are set and remove the expires date, the cookies will then expire 20 minutes after leaving the site.

Most cookies used on the forum will expire after 20 minutes anyway. If you check the don't automactically log me in feature the your login cookie will also be deleted after 20 minutes of leaving the web site.

Cookies aren't really a privacy or security issue as they can only be read by the site that sets them. They are only an issue in the paraniod press that likes to try and get people to believe that cookies are an evil scurge of the Internet, which they are not.
