LOL you must be kinda stupid not to have some kind of protection especially when having an "always on" connection like DSL or Cable. If you leave everything open you might as well have a sign saying hackers welcome. Some applications are just less intrusive like Zone Alarm is. I don't think it has anything to do with being a novice user.

the news media makes it sound like "if you don't have a firewall your going to have your idenity stolen". People like you and me know that if you have an always on connection that you should have some type of firewall. Anyway, on an average person's machine, why would a hacker bother?

They might bother just for the fun of it. Well what they call fun. I imagine a loft of people save their receipts of internet purchases etc, which might have CC numbers etc on them

They hack personal comps for the experience, that and there is like a 0.01% chance of them getting caught hacking into a personal computer

It's not the firewall part of zone alarm that is the problem (you should run a firewall) the problem with zone alarm is it's add blocking software, and the same with most add blocking software is that it injects JavaScript code into pages, this includes text boxes used by Rich Text Editors like the WYSIWYG editor in this forum, which means you have strange looking JavaScript showing in your posts.

People get confused thinking Zone Alarm Pro is just a firewall, it's not, the firewall part of the software is fine, what does course problems is other parts of the software as it also has web filtering software built in like the pop up and add blocking which course problems.

Yes, but the problem is all add blockers inject code into pages, this is what is coursing the problems.

AAARRRGGHHH!

I KNEW IT...

Silly me. I figure to myself, "Well, let's go and try Zone Alarm once more..." Big mistake. I install it, set it up, give all the right programs the right permissions... and sh*t stops working properly. That is positively the LAST time I EVER bother with Zone Alarm.
