Hello,

Can anyone reccommend me a good place for web site submission, I am fed up with my choices so far. I have chosen two sites to submit my website through to google, aol and so on. Then when I search for my site through these search engines weeks later...there is NOTHING!?!?!

I have emailed the site submissions support and all they can say is that the site is just getting index.

Anyone got any proffessional sites that are reiliable at least?

Thank you.

If any one had that answer for you they would be rich, however it has nothing to do with the topic of this forum so you may want to try in to the genral discussion area.

There are millions of web sites out there all trying to get indexed.

Most search engines have such a backlog that it will take 6 months to a year to get indexed.

The only way to get your web site indexed faster is to pay search engines for priority submission, but this is usually quite expensive, like yahoo will charge around $299 a year to be included in it's directory.

My gosh!

As I have said to another forum group, search engines are now mainly for the big business element.  Ah well!

Thanks

Web Wiz has search engine submission service.. secondly the effiency of indexing o ur site by a search engine is dependent on the meta tags of your pages..the search engine bot may come and index you and your site may not have appropiate meta tags or may be no meta tags at all so how the hell searching engine will discover and show up your site when a visitor on a searh engine searches with revelant key words??

Try to optimize your site for leading search engines like Google. Also, It takes usually 4 weeks to 8 weeks to get indexed by Google. Submit your site to DMOZ.org open directory. If the site is non commercial, try submitting to yahoo.com. If the site is of commercial nature you can by PPC at Google adwords, and Findwhat.com or overture.com.

I believe that the single best way ( for free ) to get listed is to have links on other sites (that are already listed in google) that point back to you.

(did that make sense?!?)....

Giving $ to a search engine submission site is fruitless. Better to build your key pages correctly.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services on the other hand are often worthwhile. They work with your content.

Check your weblogs.  I use Livestats. Has a section on referrals by search engine and keywords used. Very useful to see how people who do get to your site are doing it.

FWIW - alt.www.webmaster has had quite a few people post complaints about getting ripped off by Yahoo. They have a US $299 program to get ranked in the Yahoo search results that apparently...

1. Doesn't get you ranked.

2. Automatically charges you for renewal, and doesn't seem to accept cancellations. Lot's of horror stories about people being charged another $299 for renewal after canceling and having to go though their CC companies to get a refund.

Just a couple of thoughts as an addendum...

 - Page titles should contain words that are in the meta tags.

- Engines check a little ways into the page - not always the whole page - have content towards the top of your page that contains meta tag words.

- Use alt and title tags for images that contain meta tag words.

- Long embedded javascript ot the top of a page is not good.

- Flash into's are not good.

- Figure out how people will find you (keywords). Adapt for the competition - keyword "hotel"  or "travel" or "games" will get you listed as number 2 billion.

- Spoofing the engine by doing things like repeating your keywords 100 times in white on white text at the bottom of the page will get you blacklisted by the engines.

- SEO is a moving target. Engines change their criteria, other peole do things that get them ranked above you. You have to review at least annualy or loose ranking.

My host had a search engine submission service that came free with the hosting packages. I used their service to submit to google and I got in the next day with excellent results. I don't if I just got lucky, but all I have to say is that if your host has a service, USE IT!
