I am using Internet Explorer version 6 service pack 1 (I haven't installed the last two updates yet)

I am trying to install this forum to: http://www.redshift.hu/forum - http://www.redshift.hu/forum
It works for others but after I tried to login as the administrator it gives me this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

/forum/common.asp, line 391

Others are able to see the forum fine. (It is not setup at all yet. I just installed it and tried to sign in. When I did, it gave me an error. (Not sure if it was the same one since I was too worried about the error and now I can't get back to the same place)

Any help is highly appreciated!

UPDATE!

I asked someone I know to try to Login with any username and password and it crashed on him as well. He says that the page just doesn't load after he presses register. (I think he is getting an internal server error)

Thanks!

Sorry for posting so much but:
I just tried to register a new account in Netscape 7 and when I pressed the submit button it gave me this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.

/forum/register.asp, line 791

I think I figured it out...Do I have to make the files not read only?

Sorry, I'm a newcomer at this!

EDIT

I am still having lots of trouble...I don't think the FTP server I am using supports changing permissions. Right now, it is: everyone can do everything...(Everything is checked but I can't change that)

you dont have permission on the folder to update the database. Set read/write permission to the folder or have your host do it.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

What should the permissions be? Should they be 747? Thanks again!

...Did I say yet that this is the best forum around? PHP, CGI, or ASP! Great work Borg...

the permissions should be read/write access set in IIS. 747 is a linux command, and the forum doesnt run on linux.

IIS = Internet Information Server. Its the webserver.

Contact your host and tell them to give you read/write permissions to the folder your Database is in.

Ok, thanks.

Is there any way to change that manually without contacting the host?--I want to do everything I can without contacting the host.

If it's impossible then of course I will contact them!

They have to change it. But 1st make sure they dont have a folder set for database's only. If they do move your database in there.

Thanks for all your help. I'll contact the host and will report back to you what happens!

I would do like MadDog suggests and check any FAQ pages that your host runs as you may find that they have a special folder for databases that has read and write permisisons, many do.

If they do you need to move the database to this folder, then follow the instructions in the forum documentation that comes with the forum on which files have to be edited to point the forum to the location of where the database has been moved to.

If your host doesn't have a special folder for database contact them to change the permissions. Also it is worth following the documentation anyway on moving the database otherwise your forum will be open to hackers who will be able to download the database.
