Hi

I have stupidly deleted the forum/includes folder, luckily we backed up 3 days ago and replaced the folder but still nothing works.

here's the error

Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'

Name redefined

/members/forum/includes/pm_check_inc.asp, line 51

Dim intNumOfNewPM	'Holds the number of new pm's
----^

what do i need to do?

Sounds to me like you have mod'ed page somewhere that already dim's the intNumOfNewPM variable. Now that you have reinstalled the default pm_check_inc.asp you are getting the redefined error.

is this modified page likely to be anywhere obvious? what can i do to remedy it,

If I had to guess, I'd say one of the following:

  • forum/default.asp
  • forum/forum_topics.asp
  • forum/forum_posts.asp

Look for Dim intNumOfNewPM on one of those OR just comment out the Dim intNumOfNewPM line from your pm_check_inc.asp and see if that clears it up. As long as the intNumOfNewPM variable is dim'ed on each page that is necessary, then you should be ok.

If you have Dreamweaver, you can use the Edit--Find/Replace and search an entire directory. I've found this invaluable for troubleshooting since I am an ASP newbie too.

Also, I keep a page in all my sites called revisions.asp or something that contains commented lines of my revisions. That way, if I have to upgrade an application or something, I have a roadmap to implement the mod's in the new version and a history of what I did. I learned that the hard way.

assuming you havent modified the look and feel then make a copy of the database from your forum then unzip all the files for the board again into your forum folder and then overwrite the unzipped database with your copied version - should work purfeckly
(you will need to change the path to the Db though!)

as i said we backed up a couple days ago so the files havent changed much apart from the odd bit of tweaking for the look of the site. No paths were changed or anything complicated was done since backing up. Which is why it seems strange to me that it shouldnt work now.

Oh well back at work tomorrow and will try to sort it out.
