If a thread contains multiple pages could you change the drop down list into links? (I can further explain this if needed)
Also, could the links be put on the top of the page as well as the bottom? This is a feature that is in the Invision boards and the PHP boards that I have grown accustomed to. (Most features that this board has are superior to the ones that PHP has! :))

Also, could you make the smillies displayed on the left instead of in a popup? In my opinion it would make writing posts faster...

Finally, this one is major and probably very hard to accomplish so...does anyone want to make a spell-checking mod? (Unless you could handle it! ;))

borg has already said why the spell-checing cannot be done. has to do with the fact that to run a good one you would need it to be an active x compnent and security would drop down a few notches so he refuses. It would be nice though huh. i spell for sh*t.

I modified mine so that the smilies are displayed on the left. It's really easy, just copy the code on the pop-up.

There was a big debate some time ago about the links to other pages being as hyperlinks or in the drop down, and I'm afraid that the drop down came up on top as most people preferred it as it meant that topics that have loads of pages that all pages where avialable from the drop down list. If you use hyperlinks you need to use 1,2,3, ..... 11,12 thuse you have to go through multiple pages to try and get to a page  like 8.

Hmmm...phpBB has a spellchecking mod and I am almost possitive it is not an Active X component. Is this just a limitation of ASP?...I can give the link to the spellchecker and I have a complete English dictionary in a txt/dic file.

Also, unfortunately I am a complete newbie to this...it's probably not as easy as you are saying. (To put the smilies on the left)

Ok, I understand boRg...Could that be an option at least? I would realy like the page numbers to be displayed at the top of the page though too. Would that be possible?

Thanks for being nice to a newbie!

Would it be possible to send me the dictionary in a txt/dic file, that way I can loook it over and see if I can think of a way to include it.

Maybe a button or something that would open a pop up window with the post in it with any words that aren't matched highlighted. May have to use the FSO object and use Regular Expressions so may only be able to be activated on Win2k servers that have the FSO object still enabled.

It would be possible! I can either post it or send it by email. (Mine is mailto:Massman82@PDArcade.com - Massman82@PDArcade.com

A popup sounds as if it would be the best way to do it.

Still think the best method for a spell check is to use an existing application on the client...

Many users have MS Word, and I (believe) it is quite easy to create an instance of the application on the client and utilise that.

Users would probably need IE and not sure about security settings, however users could opt-in or out in their profile settings as they do the WYSIWIG editor..

Here's an example:

Cheers,
Andrew

I don't know many who use Word as a spell-checker for forums. It takes up too many system-resources and it is hard to multi-task on older computers with it running. (Maybe that's just why I don't use it that way on my artifact...800mhz Office XP)

If a built-in one could be made; I think it would work best!

Pardon? System Reources?  And you're comparing this to an ActiveX object?
