Why sometimes (espicially the CDONTS) ASP Components are too late in sending the mails.. while othertimes are too quick??.

some times i receive orders thrugh my web-form that are 7 DAYS LATE... othertimes I receive then just as they send.. what make them take a 7 DAYS to reach me.. is it a server problem or what??? and where are they these 7 days??? in its way to me

Even in this forum.. sometime when there is a new post.. i receive an email notification at once, othertime they are late may be for a day or two!!!

Is there a reason for this!!??

Mail that's a little late is usually due to network traffic at the time, but mail that's very late (in your case 7 days) is probably due to an abnormal or erroneous server setting.

I've seen servers have delay notifications set as high as 12 hours.  I should be no higher than an hour.  And sometimes expiration timeouts have been known to go higher than 2 days.

Depending on which relay server your mail got caught in, it could be as quick as one second or as long as a week.

Network traffic may be the case.. but it is only a few bytes... especially why this doesn't happen when using smtp!!!, always goes in seconds....

and YES, 7 DAYS... I'm quite sure of this...

The forum itself, doesn't "hold" any mail. Delivery delays are typically associated with problems with the sending smtp server, with the route the mail takes, with the destination pop server, or with spam scanning on the pop server.

I have my smtp server set up to route all undeliverable email messages to a special mailbox. It will attempt to deliver again every 12 hours for four days before giving up. Examination of the undelivered messages indicates that the overwhelming majority of delays are due to problems with...

1. Invalid Email Addresses

2. Rejection by the pop server/email client as spam.

3. Pop server is down.

Yahoo, MSN, and AOL are notorious for upgrading their spam catchers and blocking valid email. Usually takes them a couple of days to get things straightened out after an upgrade.

Spam catchers in general have a vigilante attitude - block first and ask questions later. Often they block a range of ip addresses used by a shared hosting service because of reports that spam has been received from within that range. It takes the hosting service a couple of days to get it appealed and straightened out. until then, all mail is stopped by the spam catcher. This is the main reason most isp's do not allow maillists.

these can't be the reasons... cause even when i send to myself.. it takes 7 days to reach me (thanks god now this is fixed)...  neither the email is valid, nor it is not rejected, nor the pop is down.. coz I receive other mail normally.

hmmm... still there must be a reason....
