Would it be possible to show something like:

"There are X new posts since your last visit" when a user signs in? Has anyone done something like this, or have any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

The date and time the user last visited is stored in the session cookie Session("dtmLastVisit"). You could use this to get an SQL statement to count how many posts have been made since this time.
