i can do it using a access database but im trying to customize, in other words instead of having just a single row, i need to be able to divide only a portion of the row into two segments. So i will have let say 4 columns 2 of the columns have just one cell and the other two are divided into two cells horizantally. does that make sense at all?

try using the colspan and rowspan properties of the td, not sure if this is what you are looking for as your explanation is kind of unclear.
