Um this is not to good....I just moved from 6.25 to 7.1 using the tool from the download section everything seems to be ok. However, it seems that some or all posts are email notifying seemingly random users.

Also, does 7.1 notify moderators of posts?

help

It will only notify those that have clicked the watch link, tell those users to click the unsubscribe link in the email they receive.

Moderators will have to click the watch link at the bottom of the forum topic page to get email notifications.

Ok - thx!

It would be a nice feature if there was a toggle for moderators and administrators to get email notify for the forumn(s) they moderate or choose.

I can see why you may have taken this feature out - must be annoying if the forum is extremely busy.

take care,
dave

There is a toggle, but it's the moderator's or admin's decision to use it.

Where in the database does it store the users topics to watch. I want to check and make sure this isn't turned on for every user on every topic.

Hmm - where is this. I see a togil to be notified on posts I've (administrator) has made but I don't see where I can choose to be notified of all posts.

The toggle is on every forum at the bottom of the page, if you want to receive emails then click the link on each forum.

The table is EmailNotify

Great....now I just have one more problem. The forum is for some reason emailing notifications to people who never requested it.

I think this is a problem coming from porting from version 6.25 (earlier I said 6.4). Where in the database does it flag for a user to have notification on posts. I think I should just go in and manually remove them.

I've shut the email feature down until; this is figured out - any help is much appreciated!

thx dave

This has happened myself and a few other people IIRC. The only way to be sure it isn't sending out these mails is to keep notifications off!

If its randomly sending out notification emails to people who haven't subscribed, then maybe something is corrupted? Try a compact and repair of the database and see if that helps.

You aren't imagining...it was doing it to me and my users...users that *never* checked email notify.

I was effectively told its my imagination or something    So, I've had to disable notifications on my system.  There's clearly a booboo here somewhere, I'd love to have notifications enabled again...but not worth the complaints my users were giving me.

Sorry to bring this WAY back from the dead, but this thread describes my problem exactly and I can't find another thread with a solution.

I upgraded from 6.34 to 7.9 and used the upgrade tool to upgrade my Access database. After the upgrade, users started receiving notifications for threads they didn't subscribe to.

I had a look at the database and it appears that the "tblEmailNotify" table holds all the notifications. Can I just delete all the records out of this table to delete all the current notifications (then useres can re-subsribe if they want to) or will I also need to adjust indexes elsewhere.

I don't want to simply delete records from "tblEmailNotify" if it will mess up the integrity of the data in the database.

I think there maybe more to this than just that.

Are you using JMail 4 as your email component??

The reason I ask is there seems to be a bug with some versions of JMail 4 that don't delete the recipient list from previously sent mails thus others that shouldn't receive the email do.

Deleting all the entries in the tblEmailNotify table will remove all email notifications but if what I describe as above is the course it may not prevent your problem from reoccurring.
