Subject: Admin authorizing new users?

Hi. I'm using v. 7.01, and it seems to be working fine so far. I have a question about registering new users.

I've been on a few other forums, where when you register, it emails an admin, and he/she has to authorize your access before you can actually post or view the forums. This would be a great help for me. Does this version contain this feature, and if so, where can I activate it?

Also, another quick question. How do I modify the "Forum Rules and Policies" document the new user sees when they first sign up?

Thanks for your help.

You can change the Registration Policies by editing the language_files/registration_polices_file.asp file.

As far as I know - I haven't looked for it myself - this version can't be made to email you so you can authorize a new user. What you could do is suspend registration and make people who want to join email you. Then you activate registration again, create a new account, suspend registration once more and send the user the username and password.

Hope this helps,
Blair

That sounds like what I want to do. one question remains though. How can I modify the text that tells the users that registration is currently suspended?

Specifically, this text: "Sorry, new registrations are currently suspended, please check back again later."

I would like to change it to something like this: "To register, please contact the forum admin at XXXXX@email.com."

You change it by editing file: language_file_inc.asp

You can enable email actication in the admin menu, then change the variable for the registrant email to a static of yourself, then you get the email and just activate who you want. Just let the user know....

or couldnt you make a new group, and set it as the Start group

then give them no permissions, and call it say "Pending"

then you can set up a link to only show people in that group on the "Members List" page i think i saw you can show people in a certen group?

if not you could make your own page from it and set it as "WHERE Group_ID = [the new group's ID number here]"

then you can change the status of people to "Newbie" if you want to accept them, or you can delete them

i havent tested this, its just an idea i thought up so i dunno if it will work

Don't see why it wouldn't work - good idea.

One method I've used is to set a "Start Group" and give them post rights to only one forum, where they must introduce themselves (or whatever) and have instructions to that effect included in the email activation. Then the admin sets a watch for that forum so that he/she receives email notices for any posts and can upgrade the status or disable the account as the case may be.

**I guess you could also set a static email cc to the admin for a user activation too rather than watch the forum.
