I'm no ASP coder...so perhaps this is easy to do and someone can tell me how...

I'd like this...(as an example)

At the Bottom of the screen, just above the pull down menu...so users can read other topics, say, in "The Wish List" without having to scroll to the top...or bother with a pull down menu

How hard would this be to do?

Find the code that does this and copy it to the appropriate place. I will look into this later and post further instructions when I have time.

What code would I have to copy/paste to do this?

Thanks

Go to whatever page you want to do this to, note the filename in the browser address bar. Open that file in Notepad / a similar text editor. Near the top of the HTML output - just below the <!-- #include file="includes/navigation_buttons_inc.asp" --> - there is a section which outputs this data. You would need to copy this and paste it in an appropriate place.

<PUNT>

I understand what the above says...but there is a LOT of code...could someone tell me exactly what I need to paste in (and where?)

Again, I would like to have..

..appear just above the Forum Jump pull down

My users would love this, rather than scrolling to the top everytime to go back to the forum areas

Thanks a bunch....any help appreciated

So you want a customised version of WWF for which you have no coding skills to achieve?  The major downside of this is that when/if a new version of WWF comes out you will probably have to redo all this again ... and again be at the whim of someone else helping.

My personal recommendation is either learn some ASP programming skills or stick with the "vanilla" version of WWF.

Just my 2c ... no offence intended.

Well, the rude response from Maddog is no surprise...pretty much par for the course.  I've watched him flame people for quite some time.  Pretty petty person...whatever.  I don't use his mods and won't.

kiwi, the only question I've tried to phrase is that although I know SOME asp, not nearly as much as others.  The part of the code in question is pretty deep...for even, yes, imagine that, a novice.  Simply put, I'm not certain how much of the code to cut paste.  That was my question, looking for guidance.

If you thought that was a flame then sorry dude, lighten up.

I'm fine, just weary of reading your continuous slams on people who, god forbid, download the product, register it and want to tweak it.

Sorry we all can not be as brilliant as you.

Yea .. I guess we all have bad days.

From reading most of the posts here you will also see that the large body of people who "want" customisation have little to no HTML coding skills let along basic ASP.  Pesonally that is a dangerous area, for it suggests a large body of people want all the fruit, but have no skills to achieve that.

Such a situation will result in

  • They apply a MOD which achieves result A
  • They then want MOD B which when applied, resets MOD A.
  • This will carry on infinitum adn made worse when a new version is released which resets them all

All the above is very easy to say when you are in a position where you can modify WFF to the nth degree to fit your own requirements.  BUt for some, and maybe MadDog is one, there can easily be a resentment to those who only/always want things for free ie free hosting, free coding support, free MODs ... especially when this is what we do to make a living.

Just my 2c and sorry if I cause offence.

Kiwi

I've paid for my software and in the other applications I've purchased, paid developers for enhancements.  This isnt a matter of me begging for something for nothing.  I'm doing the same others have done...ask if its possible, some say Yes...but wont say how.

Now if you want to show me the code snippet i need to cut/paste, then great!  If you want to defend Mad Dog..its falling on deaf ears.  He made the effort to be a jerk, regardless.

If frustrating Borg's customers makes you all happy inside, well yay you

Oh well ... looks like I have offended you.  I have my opinions on MadDog/ Borg ... in fact everyone ... but I keep them to myself.  I sense from almost all postings a frustration at the number of posts who are "gimme gimme".  My personal goal is to help as much as I can where it suits the projects Im on.  Im trying to provide as many MODS as I can to repay those who started this forum, have developed it and support it.

You asked in July, and here we are in Dec ... maybe your MOD request isn't that easy.  Just in terms of layout it would be involved ... but placing it "somewhere" has alreayd been posted by another NZ'er.

Have a good day
