Hi!

Has anyone else got this error message before:

Server Application Error
The server has reached the maximum recovery limit for the application during the processing of your request.
Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

This is on the SQL Server version running on Windows 2000 SP4. Anyone able to help?

Cheers,
Cam

You have to get hold of your ISP - it is a server problem coursed by bad microsoft software installed on the server recently - that is according to my ISP. My ISP did some rebooting, and that helped for a couple of days... till I got the same error again, and the next day they did an upgrade, now I am left with mismatch type of error.

I just love them ISP admins ;-)

Is there any way you could find out what the software is that has the problem and what the fix is? That would be very cool.

My ISP seem to be non communcative at the moment. But try and get hold of your ISP... They might be smarter ;-)

The problem with that is that it is my own server, so there is no ISP to contact - it is just me! I can't find the right answer on the Microsoft website after looking all night!

Have you been updating anything microsoft recently - maby there is a new upgrade version of that particular software?  Ill try and get hold of what they did, but thatīll take another 8 hrs or so..

Here is a link to the MS info I found on this error (which I'm gettin also). It's not too helpful, but on a whim I changed the Application Protection to high/Isolated in an attempt to protect it. We shall see if it solves the issue...

Vaseline - thanks, that would be cool!

fluxen - let me know how it goes with that change.

Right, the story so far:
I installed the latest service packs for Windows and SQL Server and also ran the RPC Denial of Service patch available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

Everything is peachy so far - here's hoping.

Well, that didn't fix it; it stayed up for 24 hours but that's it. Time to keep looking...

Interesting thread.

I too experienced exactly the same problem BUT I am still running Borg's v6.3 Forum which is as tough as my old Williams boots and MOST definitely not the cause.

The only change I had made a few days prior to Server App error appearing was to implement (as a test) a new open source hit counter (StatCountEx 3.1) that someone had recommended here. Big mistake - Disabling the counter removed the problem but not before rebooting the server. The problem affected every ASP app running on all virtual webs on the same server and my ISP was not amused but fortunately very understanding and as keen as me to get to the bottom of the problem.

I have subsequently gone through StatCountEx code and had to do a major amount of rewriting to correct a great many errors.

Having been ready to upload my corrected code this morning, I came across this thread. I realise that the proper cure is the Windows RPC Vulnerability Fix on the Server but were any of you using StatCountEx by any chance?

TIA
Nigel

Not I.

And for the record, yes, the DOS patch seems to have done the trick, I've been up for days now under an increased load, so it seems stable.
