Hey

I'm having trouble setting my SQL up.

I've tried everything I can thing of, yet still get this msg..

"

Error Connecting to database on SQL Server

Check the following is set up and correct:-

SQL Server User Name
SQL Server Password
Name of the SQL Server
Database name set up by you on the server
Empty Database set up by you on the SQL Server

Check also that you have entered the correct details in the file 'SQL_server_connection.asp' found in the admin directory."

this is the setup from my SQL_server_connection.asp file..

'Enter the details of your SQL server below
strSQLServerName = "WIN2000SERVER2" 'Holds the name of the SQL Server
strSQLDBUserName = "forum" 'Holds the user name (for SQL Server Authentication)
strSQLDBPassword = "database" 'Holds the password (for SQL Server Authentication)
strSQLDBName = "forum"     'Holds name of a database on the server

Its running MS SQL 2000, whats the problem? the forum is on WIN2000SERVER, so its connecting through my local network.

Cheers

James

Make sure that your SQL server is running in mixed mode and not using NT authentication.

You need mixed mode to be able to connect using TCP/IP.

Probably a typing error when you posted, but the setup file has the server as 'WIN2000SERVER2' but you state afterwards that it is on 'WIN2000SERVER'. I imagine you just left the 2 out but thought I'd check...

Blair

I have 2 servers

WIN2000SERVER = Runs IIS and hence is the actual front end of the forums

WIN2000SERVER2 = Runs SQL, back-end, database of the server

Rather than using the name of the SQL Server, use the IP address.

When you install SQL srever you have the option of Windows authentcation or running in mixed mode with a password that you set, you need to have it running in mixed mode.
