Subject: HTTP 500 Internal error

My site has been working flawlessy since the new version of 7.1 was out.  Today I can't log into the site due to an "HTTP 500 Internal Error". After shutting off the "show friendly Http" in my internet tools, I notices the error read.

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Operation must use an updateable query.

/forum/common.asp, line 403

My server company say's they can view my form without any problems.  That's funny because no else can.  Any help would be appriceated. http://www.tiderunner.com/forum - www.tiderunner.com/forum

Borg

Thanks for the fast reply.  I told my server company about this permission problem. They told me that they fixed it. When I now load the forum I try to enter my username and password and I get the same HTTP error message and then I am totaly locked out.  Is this problem on my side of the fence or my server company?

Thanks

Steve

I had a look and you can not save to the database, judging by the error messages I got it is certainly a permissions problem that is preventing you from saving to the database.

You will have  to get your hosting company to sort it out for you as there is nothing you can do from your side, except check the database is not set to read-only before uploading it.

Borg

Thanks again!  They finally got it working after 36hours of trying.  It was the permissions like you said.

Tell me where I can send you the check.

Steve

boRg, I get this error at random times on my forum, (these last coupple of days it has gone worse). It happens when someone replies to a message, the server popup with Internal Server Error 500 - The funny thing is, the message is saved fine in the database. Only need to do a refresh, and the message is there allright.

Do you have any idea on this one?

Iīm running Win2k Advance Server with SP3.

I have also noticed (again random) that if I add a smiley to a quoted text, the smiley is beeing put at the end of the text (quoted text). This is however only a minor problem. The first one, with the internal server error is more important.

Are you using Access? DSN or DSNless connection?

As it happens intermittently, I would look for some correlating factor such as number of users making connections to the DB, connection times, etc.

If you turn off the friendly error messages that your browser displays (it's in the IE settings) then you will be able to see the true error and the line number on which the erroe occurs. This will help greatly in troubleshooting errors in ASP.

It's located at :
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

Under Browsing turn off Show friendly HTTP Error Messages

I got it.. Does not look good:

jmail.SMTPMail error '8000ffff'

The message was undeliverable. All servers failed to receive the message

/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 227

Seems like Jmail failure, but it only does it sometimes..

I did some testing.

This error happens in two of the areas in my forum. (My forum got 11 areas in all).

I have a slight feeling this has something to do with the same problem I had converting the old version 6.31 database to the new version 7.01. People all of a sudden started to receive alot of notifies from areas they have not subscriped to. (The watch/Unwatch option). I never found a fix for this, so I had to write a message to all users (registred to the forum, using the option in the admin menu), telling them to watch this option, if they receive mails they havnīt asked for. Since then this Internal Server Error 500 has appeared.

Now I wonder - What the heck do I do to fix this.. Is it a database error of somehow. And if yes, can I/someone fix it? I know nothing about Access Databases, except I know how to enter the damn thing.

I would really appreciate all help here, as I would rather not loose my database. It contains several thousand messages around Marine Reef keeping.

boRg - If you have any ideas, please help here.
