I am getting an error when I try to view the forum I've just installed. The error is this:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Operation must use an updateable query.

/forum/common.asp, line 393

I have a physical path pointing to the database and my host says that the folder has read and write permissions. I've searched this forum for this error and found that it was a permissions error and that the host had to solve it. But, my host reassured me that he has set the permissions by sending me this screenshot.

http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/ka_permissions_modified.gif - http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/ka_permissions_modified.gif

even with this, i still get this error. I tried repairing the database, but I still have this problem.

The site is on and windows 2000 server and has ASP installed as I am currently running the login script you have on your site. The forum can be found here http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/forum - http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/forum

My connection to the database:

strDbPathAndName = "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Sequoia\kensingtonacademy.org\db\wwForum.mdb"

Any suggestions???

Thanks,

Neil

Try giving write permissions to the internet guest account, - _IUSR.

That error is 100% a permissions error.

check the FAQ on this site.

I did try to use the FAQ's but they only said that it is a permissions problem or that the database was corrupted.

Do I have to get the host to grant permissions to the IUSR?? Right now he has global permissions set....is there a specific group that needs permissions set?

Also, the forum works until I try to login...then it pops up that error message. Everytime it errors out, I have to  delete my cookies in order to not recieve it anymore.

Any more Ideas??

Thanks for you help again,

Neil

Yes you need to get permissions, as it says in the FAQ!

He has the permissions set for everyone: http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/ka_permissions_modified.gif - http://kensingtonacademy.staging.sequoianet.com/ka_permissions_modified.gif

My question is...should IUSR have the same permissions? or what group needs these permissions??

Thanks for your help Bunce and Borg, I sent that site link to my host so that he can set up the permissions.

I apologize for my boneheadedness.
