I copied all the files into the images folder, but the background stayed white... it was one of madogs called Icy Blue or somtin...

what version of wwf did you apply that skin to??

Skins are for version 6 only

How do you upgrade versions? Preferably without uploading tons and tons of files... or is that the only way... I have no idea how to do this.

between v6 and v7 you need to replace all files
