Has anyone thought, come across or actually have a mod for an Ignore Feature... or an Ignore button that will ignore (not show) the posts for a selected user.

Recently I put up the forum... in only a couple of months I have close to 300 users and over 20,000 posts... some people are getting to know each other better and some are starting to "hate" each other.  It'll be good to have a button so that they can ignore the people they don't even care to read the posts.

I've seen other boards that have that feature and/but I would like WWF (THE best forum software on the net) to also include something like that.  Any comments?... I could try creating this mod myself if this is something people would be interested in.

I don't think there's a mod available that will do what you want...

I haven't seen a mod for this. Can't say that I'd be interested in having it either, but if you make it, I would suggest that you replace the messages of ignored users with something like "Message Ignored. Click here to view it.". That way, if the thread doesn't make sense without the ignored post, they can take a look at it.

That sure would be great.  i only set mine up 2 days ago and have 163 users with only 590 posts, but have received requests for that.

how many users will this forum scale to?  i'm running the SQL version and i'm wondering if it is capable of handling 10,000 users..

thanks

Nick

I've seen some Web Wiz Forums with many more than that.

The forum on this site is at around 6,000 members without any problems.

The SQL server version is one of the only free forums available that uses stored procedures so this should help keep performance high.

I wrote an ignore feature in about 2 hours last night that so far has been working fine. It does slow things down a little though since it makes an extra SQL call to determine if a message should be ignored. In tests I've run on a thread with 20 posts it averages 0.039 seconds slower to generate the page on my forum.

Some stats for you to compare that with since otherwise the numbers don't mean much:
Server: AMD 2400, 512 ram
Forum: WW 7.6, Access, 27 meg db, 20000 posts, 1700 members, 0.2188 seconds to generate a 20 post page.

If anyone would like the code let me know and I'll send it to you.
