Subject: A question of refresh
Date Posted: 30 August 2003 at 1:12am

I'm currently designing a site for my boss and I am having trouble getting it to display properly.

http://www.wardlemarine.com.au -

Each time I access the page from my home computer I start with the location page in the main frame instead of "new_page_3.htm"

This does not happen on the work computer which is running win98, I am running winxp at home.

it works fine from my end, you might want to try refreshing the page, as it sounds like a temporary internet files issue.

Nope, each time I refresh I still go back to the location page, I have even tried deleting my history.

Also is there are way that each time somebody goes back to the site it forces there browser to check if the page has been updated and if so refresh with the new page.

If you are running XP it can be very stubborn to update it's cache. Delete it manually in IE and it should be good, or just give it some random query string so it updates it thinking it's new content/

no methods of doing that .. try pressing CTRL+F5 to see

and at command prompt typr this ipconfig /flusdns

if it's a cache issue it should be done by doing the above

CTRL+F5 should work with nothing else needed - it is an explicit command to reload the page from the web server. The command is ipconfig /flushdns --> typo above... just in case...

FYI: with AOL's browser it can store a cached version of a web page indefinitely, you have to go into the options and turn it off specifically.

Thanks for all your help guys but I think you miss my point.

I want to fix the problem using the webpage because I think if it can happen to me then it could happen to others as well.

If we are missing your point, then maybe you should restate your question, or maybe post a link to the website you are dealing with...

Yeah, but... You can use Tools > Internet Options > Delete files to delete the cache, wich is very likely to do whenever you're creating and developing a website.

Your boss?

I originally posted the websites details but edited them from the post once we went live because we are only a small business and we wanted get a true representation of the amount of traffic on the site.

My problem was to save you scrolling to the top of the screen was: I am using frames and when I go the site on my home pc In the main frame it shows our location page instead of the start-up page. I was wanting to know if you can write something into the code to ensure that the page refreshes the main frame each time the page is changed or the customer enters the site.

This does not happen on the other pc which I have tried it with.

So when you go to the site you go to the wrong page? are you clicking from a link in your favorites or what? Typing http://www.yoursite.com - www.yoursite.com should always go to your default page...

I will doublecheck that tonight but if it something as stupid as that I will hit myself across the head just as hard as you would, if you were close enough to me.

I sincerely hope I am not that stupid, we shall see.

Guess what folks, as many would have already known I'm a dumb-ass.

When I checked the properties of my favourites link it said http://www.yoursite.com - www.yoursite.com so I assumed it was going to the first page. Wrong.

When I added it to my favourites I myst have been on the location page but because of the frames I couldn't tell it had bookmarked the wrong page.

btw thanks for the help KC and I now have a sore head (at least I've stopped ripping clumps of hair out)

I hate it when something like that happens... you waste so much time on something that turns out to be simply fixed...
