Hello,

I was trying to upgrade my 7.0 beta 3 wwforum to the new 7.1, but it failed. So I reuploaded my back up files.

Now I can't get into the Admin Control Panel, it says I have insufficent permisson. Unfortuantly I'm the only person with admin permissons and have too many users to reinstall everything.

Any idea on what is wrong and how I can fix it? Is there a way to bypass this?

i had a similar problem once.. i downloaded the database and manually changed the admin account in the tblUser field (or which ever it actually is) and then uploaded it and all was fine.. have you tried that?

Well,  The database is being written to, as when I download it and view it new users are added, but it seems that it is not being read as when you log-in it does not recognize a user from the database.  Thus logging on as an administrator does not let you in nor any registered users are recogined or have any permissions.

IE sometimes has problems with cookies when changing folders. I get it sometimes on this board.

Try logining directly into the admin area by typing in the URL to your forum followed by /admin will give you the login to the admin area. eg:-

www.mysite.com/forum/admin

This will give you a direct login to the admin area where you just re-enter your admin username and password.

Tried that early on. You can regisetr all you want and they are added to the database but it seems they are never read.  I tried moving the database as fornt page extensions are on this site.  I imported the database and it is in the fpdb directory.  I edited the 2 common.asp files to point to the the proper location relative to where they are, rebuilt the global.asa file.  And have no ideas where to go from there.

I want to continue to use web-wiz but late last night I installed megabbs which works similair to webwiz but offers calendaring and other feature that are great but I do not want to add complexidy to a simple support form.  The poing I am making is everything works in MeggaBBS forums, calendaring, photo galleries, the works.  I use the same procedure to install it.  I had been using webwiz for some time on my site with no problems and never ever needed to import and create a global.asa file in the earlier version.  Don't know if you changed code or what is going on.  Megabbs is great but only tech heads I thing would use it.  Too many options and features.

Also do you support mail smtp authentication.  Before I updated webwiz, mail quit working when we implemented smtp authentication.  A username and password must be entered now to send mail.  That was what went for the upgrade in the first place.  I still cannot tell as can never log-in as aministrator.  I don't think MegaBBS supports this either.   But you all better support it soon as I feel before long every hosting company should be implementing it.

Great software but I am stuck on this one.  If you want a url.

http://www.djmiller.net/forum - http://www.djmiller.net/forum for webwiz. - Will not recognize logins

http://www.djmiller.net/bbs - http://www.djmiller.net/bbs - Mega bbs. Totally functional.

Thanks for your help!

Dan Miller

I just went to your forum and logged in with the default username and password without a problem and went straight to the admin area without a problem.

I used IE with the security settings set at medium and had no proble what so ever.

It could be that your cookie index in IE has become corrupted (often happens in IE).

To reset it, first delete all cached internet files then delete your cookie cache from from Internet tools. This will reset your cookie index in IE.

boRG,

That was it...  Bit what a waste of my time trying to troubleshoot.

It was the cookies.  I deleted all offline content and that did not work by its-self.  Now the only question I have left is about mail and SMTP authentication.

Thanks!!!!

I seemed to have solved my problem temporarely, I renamed my admin directory and put a password on it, and deleted the code in common that made if refer to the insufficent data. But it works and I still have security...so YAY!

Ron I think you read my post wrong, it's not the forum files you delete, it's all your cached files in Internet Explorer followed by IE's cookie cache.

Go to Internet Tools in IE, then delete all Cached Internet Files followed by Deleting all cookies this will then reset your corrupted cookie index in Internet Explorer.

I did that..... I think your mixing me up with djmiller, because how can you go to my forum when I didn't give you a link?

I did however find the problem. When I uploaded my files after trying to upgrade I forgot to upload the right common.asp file for the admin section so it was pointed at the wrong database.

Sorry, it does get confusing when people post about simular but different problems in the same topic. It's much simpler if people could start a new topic.
