Firstly sorry for being such Lamer ... Trying to get the board up and running on my web site. Things I have done Uploaded files to my server into the correct directory CHMOD all .ASP's to 755 Tried several pages of the newly installed forum but always get a text document that seems to say the same thing no matter what page I try. i.e .......................................... <% @ Language=VBScript %> <% Option Explicit %> <!--#include file="common.asp" --> <!--#include file="functions/functions_date_time_format.asp" --> .......................................................... .................... CHMOD files back to 644 but still the same problems. If you can help please lay it out from start to finish what I need to do ok ! Right from the start please .....ok im ready Any help from you guys greatly appreciated. Take care Wayne ------------- Who dares Wins ? |

Yes the server supports .ASP I CHMOD the files because thats how little I know. I thought you had to do this for all files that were expected to do somthing.  Wayne ------------- Who dares Wins ? |

some asp files have to be CHMOD'd but none for this forum. that's what makes it so nice and easy.. you just upload and go.. |

have you tried just reuploading the files? without CHMODDING them? try that and tell us what it says (make sure you have freindly error messages turn OFF in IE) |

First things first, trying to view your site is a pain in the ass. Pop ups may look pretty to you but its not to your surfers.
Anyway, if your using Apache then you cannot use this forum, it works only with IIS. I am sure this is mentioned in the documentation that comes with it, something like "There is no grantee the forum will run on a Unix/Linux web server even if it supports ASP." Then again who reads the feckin manual

Well said Your webhost doesn't support ASP at all, otherwise you would get an error instead of the text files, that just happens when the server doesn't have ASP. I've heard of some that got the forum running on Apache with Chili ASP but I never tried it... tried other components and got errors though... You'll also would have to CHMOD only the database folder to 755 i think and upload folders if you're on a linux server... On a windows server CHMOD don't work so you have to contact your host and have em set write permissions or do it thru you control panel. |

The forum won't run at all on Unix web servers. You DID ask for help did you not? By going to your site I was able to determine you weren't able to run the forum, hence my reply on the previous page. If you had supplied more info I wouldn't have needed to visit your site.
Rather than wasting your time and mine, and everyone else who comes here, if you has simply looked at the documentation you would have saved us all time and money.
Nice to know Borg has spent hundreds of hours developing this stuff, even going as far as telling you how to sort it when its broken by PROVIDING DOCUMENTATION, and thats the sort of comment back. Bruce, sometimes I wonder why you bother! |
