i think it is that the chat rooms dont make any money so they are closing them and using the excuse "its for the children".... a pa stunt

that's what the article states too. microsoft is not making any money, so they are forcing people to go to paid sites for chatting with their msn buddies.

I dont know, if I was the head of Microsoft and my chatrooms where causing death/rape etc etc I would probably follow the same path.  Its probably a morally good choice to make in the long run.  Im happy for them to go down even if it helps save one life in a hundred years.

may be they are threatning only.. for more advertising... and making a topic of chating... and then say:

"Microsoft won't close the chat room under pressure from the chaters"

MSN messenger you only talk with people you add. MSN chat you talk to every tom dick an harry...

Smart move in my opinion. I used to use the MSN Chat quite often, but now there are just massive amounts of spammers there that IM you useless garbage. This move also helps protect Microsoft from any legal actions that may result from these actions. If people have to pay then there are ways to track violators.

So overall I believe it is a smart move on Microsoft's behalf.
