Subject: Permissions bug? v. 7.01

I just discovered that Newbie level members can post into one of my forums set for Admin Only reply.  I was wondering how someone replied to one of my posts in my Site Update Notices forum which has everything set for Admin Only except for Access. I changed my own (secondary - not Admin) account down from Admin level to Senior Member and went into the forum. It said I could not post (and rightly so). I set the level down to Newbie and the reply form shows up.

Aside from possibly upgrading to the current 7.5 beta version, how can I fix this myself? I know I could go through the code myself, but that could be a tedious task, especially if someone knows the fix already.

I am using 7.01 Access version.

Thanks!

Check your permissions for the newbie group on the admin forum, they sure have permission to post there as this is not a bug on ver 7.01, i don't have that problem with my forum which is 7.01 and never heard of it neither.

Thanks for the reply, but I tried looking there already, unless I'm looking in the wrong spot.

Under Forum User Group Permissions, for the forum in question, it says Forum Access - All Users, all other functions are set to Forum Admin's Only, or are turned off (Polls, etc).

Under User Group Details for Newbies, I don't see anything to set that is related to posting. Just the name, number of stars, and ladder group details which are all the forum defaults.

Where else should I be looking?

Thanks very much.

Look at the last one on the bottom where it says moderate this forum, does it has a check mark?

X Forum Forum Permissions
Forum Access: < = value=true name=read>
Post New Topics: < = value=true name=post>
Reply To Posts:
< = value=true name=reply>
Edit Posts: < = value=true name=edit>
Delete Posts: < = value=true name=delete>
Sticky Topics: < = value=true name=priority>
Create Poll's: < = value=true name=poll>
Vote in Poll's: < = value=true name=vote>
Upload Images in Posts:
Only enable this function if you have first setup the upload configuration, if your web space supports it.
< = value=true name=images>
Attach Files to Posts:
Only enable this function if you have first setup the upload configuration, if your web space supports it.
< = value=true name=s>
Moderate Forum:
Only enable this if you wish this User Group to be able to have moderator functions on this forum.
< = value=true name=moderate>

That code at the right are suppossed to be checkboxes

OK, thanks again for the response. I went through each group and assigned permissions for each to have only Forum Access only. That seems to have worked. I thought I only had to do this if a group had access different than the defaults for the forum. If I have to do this for every forum and every group, why are there forum defaults?

At least it seems to have cleared up this problem.

You must have changed it by accident before...

No, I don't believe I  changed it by accident before. All user groups were the forum defaults, with the exception of the moderator group, which I added to a different forum. I didn't think I had to actually add assign the permissions of every group to every forum. It was my understanding that only groups that were different than the default settings for a particular forum needed to be changed.

Oh well. The main thing it's now working as intended. I'm glad you pointed me in the right direction.
