I used the migration tool and everything went well during the process.  After the migration I went into my "new" database to see if everything was transfered.  What I found was my members passwords had some how changed to other random letters?  Was this suppose to happen?

That's because in the new DB they are encoded in 128-Bit...

Does that mean my members will still be able to log on using their original passwords?  Sorry for sounding dumb, I'm still fairly new to this.

Thanks

I thought it was 160 bit, hee hee, anyways yes your members passwords are still the same, just encrypted.

Yes, the whole point about encrypting passwords is that it cannot be read by examining the DB, by anyone let alone unauthorised eyes in the event of theft / hacking.

One way encryption, used by Bruce, also means that you cannot decrypt this incomprehensible text back to the original password. Like most crypto I guess it could eventually be broken but this is about as strong as I could possibly have wished for.

Anyone who has run the Migrator can see just how much processing power the PW encryption process actually takes compared to the other migration functions (Threads Topics etc)

Hope this helps
Nigel
