I have a picture gallery in ASP which I created using the Content Link component (tutorial from http://www.4guysfromrolla.com - www.4guysfromrolla.com ). My only problems is that I want the script to also create scaled-down thumbnails by itself on the server, because I don't want the visitors to download the full pictures right away.

I know that it's possible but I don't know how. Do I need a special component or something?

P.S.

After a quick search I found that there was already someone else who asked this question, but no one seemed to know how to answer him. He was asked if he has ASP.NET support because if he does then he won't need any components. Well, I have the option to enable ASP.NET on specific folders on my server so I don't have problems with that, but how exactly can I do the resizing thing?

The problem is you need to involve an image component. Normal ASP really can't do any special stuff without involving a component. You can ofcourse change the display site, but that is of no use, when you will be loading huge images in that size.

There are several conponents available in the net. You might want to try just searching for it.

ImageMagick is a nice FREEE image component, that I used a while back to perform thumbnailing in ASP on uploaded images for a photography site.  The only thing is that you have to use a shell function to call the external app from ASP.  I think I used one of the wscript object methods, can't remember which one.  I guess you could also create a wrapper COM object with the VB shell function that can be run through MTS under any account context.  This was probably the most secure method I found to call the external app.

Don't bother talking to me about components because I'm on a virtual server and I can't install new components and stuff like that.

vshriniwasan: What do you mean by 'huge images in that size'? What exactly is 'huge'? My largest images are around ~600x600px in size and file size is around 200~300kb. Is that called huge?

For broadband users it isn't overly large, but for users on dial up you are talking 10-15 seconds downloading one pic...

MorningZ: What if I don't want to upload, I just want to create thumbnails for existing pictures on the server?
