Sorry, only members with sufficient permission can access this page.

A security error has occurred with authentication.

I get the above message when trying to create new user groups.  I have tried re-installing the entire forum, to no avail. (the database was not overwritten on install)

I have not tried the obvious yet mysterious things that sometimes work when you're not sure what's wrong (reboot the computer, try a different browser).. I work off a personal IIS server win2k

thanks //antron

(yes obviously I am logged in as admin, etc, all that)

excitingly, I receive a NEW error now after creating a new admin account - check this one out, it is more helpful:

Technical Information (for support personnel)

  • Error Type:
    Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A000D)
    Type mismatch: 'CLng'
    /forum/admin/group_details.asp, line 99

Now, another thing that I happened to notice was that in alot of places in the admin set-up thing, alot of the combo boxes (in ASP, drop boxes?) are missing their information.. for instance there are no options in the "number of stars" or "Ladder Group Minimum No. of Posts" combo boxes on my group admin page.

Any idea how to fix?

Are the database permissions set right as shown in the documentation. The database must have all permissions.

yes I set that when I installed.  Oddly now I am even unable to access that folder's contents through explorer, but it is also 3am and my brain is too silly puddy to think about it.. but yes I did as the documentation indicated.

You can only view the folders content because directory browsing is enabled. About the other problem I don't know.

yea I fixed that thing - I had actually removed my own login's permission to browse it! only the internet user had the permission. I added alot more permissionsfor various users to my database folder, didn't seem to help

I think they key is that it may have something to do with the fact that no numbers or options show in the combo boxes on the create group page.  I'll also try repairing the database and stuff, see if I can come up with anything

I dont understand why this bug wasnt fixed in the download I did this weekend... I mean doesnt bugs get corrected in the downloadable version... or do we have to fix all bugs ourself after finding them, searching in the forum, reading replies "already fixed, read here.."....

What, you expect Borg to make every bug fix to the download available everyday?  That's what versions are for.  You put out a version, you accumulate bugs, you document & fix them.  When you are ready to put out a new version, you do.  Borg doesn't put out a new version everyday.

If a new version is released every time a bug is found it would be on version 500 by now, also I would be spending all my time trying to support 100's of different versions and getting new zip files ready for download.

Also fixing one bug can lead to another bug or another problem so testing needs to be carriedout.

oke, oke, oke... I get it...

But shouldnt there be a decent overview on known bugs and a pointer to fix-threads....
A sticky with "Knows bugs in 7.5 Final".... then I wouldnt spend loads of time on my current downloaded version figuring out whats wrong, then visit this forum and start searching....

my two cents ;)

I get the same thing when making changes in Admin Group.

I just log out and log back in and all is well.

Ok, I think I know what the problem here is.

After installation, you change admininstrators password or username (not sure which one makes the differense). Then when trying to alter groupsettings the new login isnt recognized (or the old one is still used), prohibiting you from doing the groupchange. Forcing you to relogin.

Simpler than that the text field in the file group_permissions.asp is called 'name' this confilcts with the login system. You need to change this text field and where it is rad in on that page to another name.

Follow the links in pervious posts in this topic to get a full detail description of what to change.
