Is there a way to make the real name field (or any of the others)compulsery when a user registers?

You could change the javascript in the register.asp file so that the user has to complete those fields in order for the form to be submitted.

Add this to the checkForm() function on register.asp

        //Check for a real name
        if (document.frmRegister.realName.value == ""){
                      errorMsg += "\n\tYou must enter your real name.";
        }

<edit> Add at the top of the function after initialize variables....
