Could somebody please explain the pros and cons of using relative and absolute paths?

I know that for development I have to use the relative path because if I don't, the browser always wants to connect to the 'net.

I have seen sites with both type paths on them, but am wondering which is best.

Will I have to change all my relatives to absolutes before I post my site?

no you won't have to change them as long as you keep the directory structure the same.

you can read more about relative and absolute paths  http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=relative+vs+absolute+paths - here

I use the relative path almost always but sometimes it requires absolute path to be placed on the page. It depends upon you need. But as long as it possible I use relative paths
KCWebMonkey is right; you don't need to change the relative paths as long as the structure remains the same.
