I think it is quite a good plan to create a new WWF in VB.NET or C#.NET..

I'm working in .net framework on my site, and installed WWF and works fine, but I'd love to see WWF migrated to .net...

If you need any help about that, let me know...

it also quite a bit of work to scrap 1000's of hours of code and start from ground zero again....

its a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig deal

(First off.. let me note that i am not speking for Bruce, nor have any idea what his thoughts on this would be)

yeah, but i think in general people just miss the point about something like WWG.. and its the same thing i go through on my 34,000+ member site.... no one is getting paid for all this.... parts of reaf life suffer, and suffer bad, with projects this big taking all one's "free" time.......

i finally had enough of spending couple hundred dollars a month out of my pocket and am converting my whole entire site (forum code and all) to VB.NET so i can take advantage of roles, caching, etc and with this my site is going membership-fee based......  i have hit the wall where dumping tons of time into something so openly "free" has stopped making sense on my part.....

so let Bruce enjoy what he has here, a very stable and feature filled forum that he provides people for free.. instead of giving him grief to rewrite everything from scratch......    trust me, i am finding out its a major pain in the ass, i started my rewrite like back in March and i am like 20% done for one reason and another

i think people expect way too much... way way way too much

I really could enjoy redoing all from the scratch, I'm planning to create a big integrated forum & site, and we could work together...

if we´re on the same way, let me know...

I'm currently building a forum in a single page and a module, like WebForum.aspx.

The page decryptes the data in the querystring and parse an output html. It's quite difficult though.

It could be... but if you split functions clearly and make a good use of Server.Transfer or UserControls it would be worth for learning and a scalable solution!

I dont know michael, I resepect his time and all that, but we shouldnt feel restrained from making suggestions, this suggestion wasnt put forward in a selfish or non-suitable way.

if that was directed at my reply... (btw i'm Steve, not Michael)..

i was just trying to make the point that people in general are awfully demanding for something they pay nothing for nor any clue whatsoever of how much time and effort is involved

someone on this thread is going to write their own forum program?  and they don't even know how to split a string into an array?... yikes... god help him.....

I think that an OPEN SOURCE ASP.Net forum would be cool. I will go wherever this forum goes, I have learned so much about ASP from this site, becuase of the generosity of Bruce, and I think it would be a shame to move on from here unless the whole forum goes that way.

I respect the open source project! I really do! I think it is great that people take the time of building such app's. I'm quite busy to, since my sch00l is a bit suffering from all of my programming and stuff. So this could be my last post in a while, when they decide to move my computer.

It's just that some features you require aren't in any other forum, plus, when you build your own forum, you know exactly how to make it fit-in your website, which quite important.

Why moving on? I'm not publishing my forum I guess, let's just stick with WWF! I think it is quite an clever forum with the e-mail notify and private messenger.

That will be really good because there are no decent asp.net forums ( http://www.asp.net - www.asp.net one sucks). Good luck with it

Good for You ... and to all others that would like to have a WWF-NET forum: Code IT!!!! yourself. It isn´t that hard. You code much faster in ASP.NET than Classic ASP, way faster. If You spend 1000 hours in Classic ASP to code something I guess You make the same app in 2 - 300 hours with NET.

- borg -
Would it be OpenSource ... or do You plan to charge for it?

I have started to code up a "WWF look-and-behave-like" forum in NET by myself using Access, MS-SQL Server and MySQL (ODBC) database for storage.
It will probably be a OpenSource/FreeWare project when I have something that works like a forum ... now I only have something that "looks like a forum".

cya,

/PatrikB
