Hi,

My PC can't start anymore. There's power shown in
the monitor and some spinning sound from the
CPU. The sound is either the fan or hardisk.

I have important document to retrieve. Can someone
help me???

What has you done? Try to think back what you did before this happen. This is very important. What do you see when you reboot your pc? Total nothing or when start to be nothing. You need to give us more details so that we can narrow down your problem.

Thanks for the reply.

It was quite some time back that I used that PC. I
pulled out all cables and connected once as I re-
arranged my desk. After that when I on it again, the
monitor only said "No signal detected" and I hear
only a spinning sound from the CPU.

This is the second time I faced this problem. I have
already dumped the previous computer and hope to
know what's the real problem now.

It can be a lot of things, in my case the motherboard was fried. It could be the CPU or just the memory, where hard to say. Do you hear beeps?? If yes, what is the beep order like:
beep-beep-beeeeeep or beep beeeep beeeep
This way you can find out where it is beeping. If no beep at all it is most probably the motherboard. Thus, open the case and check if you see the cpu fan spinning. If it is, it maybe the cpu....

Had a similar problem on with XP Pro. Installed Linux and it worked ;) hehe

Sad part is that once I reinstalled again with Windows it didn't work

I just scrapped it in the end. Too much trouble to screw around with it anymore.

Open it and check that all the PCI/AGP cards are firmly in place. Since you said it happened when you unplugged the cables off the back it's very possible that the video card came loose a bit. Also if it's a PCI card try taking it out and put it on another slot. It can be pretty much anything but the most common causes for this problem are video card, motherboard, RAM, and CPU.

If that don't fix it you might have to start stripping out all the hardware and keep just the motherboard, cpu, ram, and video card, and if still won't POST then start swaping parts from another PC until you narrow it down to something... Ground yourself by touching the metal chasis of the case before you touch anything inside.

Now, calculate how much time you have wasted on messing around with the PC, multiply it by how much your time is worth, multiply that by a 'cost of living' / 'cost of sanity' adjustment factor to account for the hair and sanity you lost... and then tell me it wouldn't have been easier just to scrap it all...

PCs are very much similar to public restrooms... lots of crap floating around in there and if you're brave enough, you're still gonna get covered in $hi+.

Maybe your PC fluid reservoir is too low, and that would cause your Fluid Underflow Capacity Device to malfunction, which would prevent your PC from booting up.

It sounds like your fan on your CPU has stoped working and your CPU has cooked. As you have been informed you will need to remove the case lid and power up the PC, Look at the CPU fan to see if one Nothing has stopped it turning and two it still is. If the fan has stopped and the CPU possibly is cooked, You would be best taking it to a PC repair shop.

Hope this helps BoLt (PC Engineer)
