7.51a - i don't know if you'd call this a bug or a design preference, but if you have a forum where only admins/mods can post new topics the new topic button shows for the other members. if you click on it it correctly does not allow posting. just an observation.

This is done more as an information thing.

So if a person can not post new topics in a forum clicks it they are informed they don't have permission to post in that forum.

I did try it that if a user did not have permssions to post the button would not appear. I was then floooded with loads of PM's and emails from people asking how they could post in the forum. At least this way they know so they don't ask.

I wonder if a faded out version of the button would be a good option.  If they have permission to post, it shows the regular Post Topic button.  If they don't, it shows a faded out version indicating that it is disabled.  If they click on the disabled one, it would still go to the permissions page saying they don't have rights to post.

This is similar to how Windows has their menus configured.  If the menu item is enabled, it looks normal, if it is disabled, it still appears on the menu but is greyed out.

I think this method would satisfy both camps and stop the questions about why the Post Topic button appears even when they can't post.
