Subject: VGA Driver ???

I just formated and re-install Window 98 SE. After installing everything, everything works except the VGA. The resolution is 640 X 480 can't go futher while the color is 2 and 16. When I right click My Computer>System Properties>Device Manager>Computer>Display Adapter, I see Standard PCI Graphic Adapter (VGA)

So, it means that the VGA driver is installed? But, then why I can't change the monitor screen to 800 X 600 or higher?

Standard VGA in Windows ME is only 640 x 480. You will need to find adriver on the internet for your vga card and install that. Then you should be all set

That is a monitor driver problem, get your monitor driver right, it must be on standard 640x480 monitor

its NOT a monitor problem.. its the graphics driver.. the standard drivers in windows 98 sucks ass... you have to download an updated driver or install from the cd you should have received with the graphics card..

The Windows 9x (95, 98, and ME) default graphics driver that is used when you first install windows does NOT support anything higher then 256 color at 640x480. You NEED to install the proper drivers for your video card. If you have a nvidia chipset, you can goto http://www.nvidia.com - www.nvidia.com and download them there, for a ATI chipset, goto http://www.ati.com - www.ati.com , for any other chipset, you will have to go to the chipsets respected site and get the latest drivers for your model of card. Once the proper drivers are installed, everything should be fine. If you feel so inclined, you can install the drivers for your monitor, but this is not nessecary as the generic monitor driver is ussually fine and dandy for most monitors.

Ok Its time to look at the make of your video card as you need to install the driver for this. 1st is your video on board or off (on board is the video connection to your monitor is fitted onto the main board). Ok if you have a on board you look at your main board manual to find out the video make like SIS or something. Now skip to the get driver bit. If off board you will need to look at the card to find out the make Like ATI rage pro, Nvidia GF 5200. Now you know your card goto Get driver.

Get driver from for your card and for your windows type

Now install it as told to do so by manufacturer.

Hope this helps BoLt (Comput Engineer)

Go into Safe mode. Select the standard SVGA driver.

Then pick color depth/resolution and reboot.
