I have a site where users can post Jokes to the site.

I use an access database to store the jokes. I would like users to be able to format the jokes eg include bold tags, italic, add emotions..... just like the form used to submit topics to this forum.

Any pointers of how to do this would be most welcome.

Thanks

Use codes then convert the codes, this way you have control over the input, allowing HTML to be directly input by a user leaves you wide open to malicious code.

Go http://www.interactivetools.com - here and download it. Then you just ad a few bits of code near the textarea and you got yourself a great HTML editor similar to MSWord.

Thanks zaboss for the tips.

-boRg- Thanks for the warning.

Not quite sure what you mean by "Use codes then convert the codes"

How do I stop users adding HTML or ASP code into a text field?

Is there a simple snippet of code I could add to my page to stop this.

Ps. this is a fine forum..one of the best I have seen...very quick replys

Wel, you could create some JScript functions to remove/modify the unwanted tags. But, for you, HTMLArea is just the perfect tool. You only need to add 2 lines of java script near your text area. It has enough protection to prevent an atack. But, on the internet you are nevere sure . But that does not mean you just seat down and do nothing about security issues on the ground that your site could be hacked anyway so, why bother.
