I'm currently redesigning a page and I'm looking for a specific effect. I want to have a text area (not a form, just a place with text...like an iframe or table or something) that scrolls, but the kicker is that I want to have an image overlay the text. The image will stay static. The best way to describe it is if you cut hole in a plain piece of paper with edges like /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ and you slid moving text under it...that's the effect i'm going for. I know it's possible because I've seen it done a few times, I just can't remember where (figures...ech). I believe that it has to do with DHTML, CSS, or both. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's an image to hopefully help with what I'm going for:

It's the same concept the image will be part of a static layer above the text layer and the text will scroll under that static layer.

I don't think GIF would work, since GIF only marks one color as transparent. PNG allows you to mark multiple transparancy color's, so chose PNG-32. ------------- Gone.. |

Hey ljamal, I have IE set up to prompt when confronted by 3rd party cookies. I get the prompt every page you post on. It seems to come from longbox.com. -------------

Netscape 4.x doesn't handle css to well. The graphic and the text will display, but the div positioning and text scrolling will be lost, so they'll display inline like regular text. You may want to put in a browser check and a redirect for 4.x browsers. -------------
