When I select to compact my access 2000 database in my web wiz forum admin, I get the following error message:

  1. Database backed up to:-
    D:\inetpub\wwwroot\socalsinker.com\forum\admin\database\wwFo rum-backup.mdb

  2. New compacted database:-
    D:\inetpub\wwwroot\socalsinker.com\forum\admin\database\wwFo rum-tmp.mdb

    Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

    Permission denied

    /forum/admin/compact_access_db.asp, line 136

Does anyone know how to fix this?

You need to have permisison to delete files on the server.

If you don't go back to the backup database and rename it using FTP. If you wish to comapct and repair the database you may need to do this manually by downloading the database via FTP, open in access, compact and repair the database from accesses tools menu, and then reupload the database again.

The only thing I can do when I download the file manually is to repair it in access, I cannot compact it. It says im using a newer version of access than what the file is using.

Then I'm afraid unless you can get the permissions changed on the forum to delete files as well you don't have any choice but use the database uncompacted.

According to your previous post the compact procedure has already taken place so the file:-

wwForum-tmp.mdb

Will already be compacted, so use this file instead by renaming it on the server to wwForum.mdb

Would  this mean  that the IUSR account would need delete rights to the database folder? Or is there a more secure way of doing this?

Thanks Again,

Joey

For this feature to work yes.

How it works is:-
  1. Makes a backup using FSO object.
  2. Compacts and repairs the database to wwForum-tmp.mdb using the JET database engine.
  3. Deletes the old uncompacted database using the FSO object.
  4. Renames the wwForum-tmp.mdb to the orignal name of the database using the FSO object.
