When I looked in my database directory, I saw .tmp , .bak and .ldb files. Can these be deleted??

Can they? Yes! Is it wise? Not necessarily!
tmp are temp files that if an app is written good should get deleted automatically. Don't know what app would create them in a webdir.

bak are windows backup files, so I guess someone ran a backup to that folder. So if you don't need it, kill it.

ldb's are database locks which I would never delete unless you are 100% sure noone is in the db. Otherwise two people could try to update the same record and the database would crash.
