Is it possible for me to password protect the whole forum application so that when someone browses to my forum directory, they are prompted to enter a password before going any further?

Thanks

You can only password seperate forums not the whole forum

thats a shame. I need to only allow certain members to register with the forums. I don't want just "anybody" to be able to register and read everything.

what I mean is that I want to give people a password to the forums, so they can then go and register, to stop general members of the public from registering themselves.

Hope that makes sense!!

Can you think of an easy way to implement this?

Don't allow the standard user to read anything after they registered. Create a group like approved users and promote the ones you want in having the access they need.

From what Phat mentioned above, I think he's talking about NT security. That is difficult to manage on a large scale, but very good. Michael's suggesstion is more practical.
