Subject: Security Code digits - broken link images
Date Posted: 11 December 2003 at 4:01pm
Just installed 7.6, French language, all fine until I tried to register as
a new member to test that one out. I read the multiple posts on
enabling cookies etc etc

- I searched all cookies (all activated)
- the Explorer is set to accept them all
- I emptied the cache

It simply won't work : the space occupied by the digits has broken
image links instead.
Typing any code returns the expected result & the system warns that
it generated a new code... but the digits images still show a broken
link image instead...

I checked the security images folder : all there

How can I fix this please ?

blnLongSecurityCode = false in common.asp

Yeah, common.asp comes that way.

Do you mean we need to change it?

Right click the broken images, where are they pointing to?

i got the same error when i used a referal adress such as http://www.tk - www.tk

and when i stoped using that the problem went away, so i guess that it would be something like that, don't use a adress that totlay masks the url.

i don't know but it worked for me, and all the users.

The images point to :

( http://www.domainname.com/ - http://www.domainname.com/ ....

http://www.dysphasie.ch/forum/security_image.asp?I=1&336 - forum/security_image.asp?I=1&336

http://www.dysphasie.ch/forum/security_image.asp?I=2&8Z1 - forum/security_image.asp?I=2&8Z1

etc.

It is generating "a" code since entering anything below returns the "wrong code" behavior

Do you have a directory named security_images with the ten figures in it directly under the forum directory? (and another one under admin)

It happened to me when I uploaded my forum that this directory (in forum) was not transferred. Only red crosses visible.

On the post above about

blnLongSecurityCode = false in common.asp

I do not have such sentence in the "common.asp"
file. Where do I have to insert it - if at all ?

On the post : directory named security_images with
ten figures in the forum/security_images AND in the
forum/admin directories : YES in both cases.

What next ??

Thanks for your help

Another input :

Right clicking and opening the broken image link on a new window
provides the following message ;

Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'
Server.CreateObject Failed
/forum/security_image.asp, line 76
Invalid class string

Looking at "Line 76" in the security_image.asp, I read (lines 75 &76):

'Set the stream object
Set objADOStream = server.createobject("ADODB.Stream")

What is wrong here ?
Thanks

This means that the server you are using hasn't been updated in quite sometime and so doesn't meet the minimum requirements found on:-

http://www.webwiz.net/web_wiz_forums/forum_specifications.asp?mode=forum - http://www.webwiz.net/web_wiz_forums/forum_specificati ons.asp?mode=forum

you need a newer version of the ADO MDAC drivers installed on the server.

Aw, I have the same problem. I just spent hours updating my forum from 7.1 to 7.6 but now when i go into my admin page to unlock the forums i see that i have to type in the security code. however i just get broken images too. is there no way to turn off this security feature? or do i have to go back to 7.1? i use a free server and they won't respond to my emails about updating the ADO MDAC drivers.

thanks

Here:

http://www.stellarfrontier.com/transfers/register.zip - http://www.stellarfrontier.com/transfers/register.zip

This comments out the security code bits and then deletes the portion of the page's table devoted to displaying and collecting the meshuganah security code image.

Keep your original register.asp around if you want to restore.

And I am running the latest 2.8 MDAC and it still doesn't work, so I disable the "feature".

RH Burton,

My provider confirmed the drivers update requirement as posted by

-boRg-
Admin Group

above. I expect these drivers to be updated - unless they create
other issues for other files on their server, in which case (or if this
still doesn't work) I will test your solution or drop off and chose
another way to create my forum.

Thanks & best regards
NickJ

Make sure that if you have upgraded you have uploaded all the new images both in the main forum and the admin area that are numbers as .gif images, if you don't you will see broken images.
