I've set up 5 user groups with minimun 0, 50, 200, 500 and 1000 posts but going to the forums checking users groups it's not working properly...

users are being classfied only in the first, second level tops.

i.e. 1st group goes from 0-50 but a user with 143 posts is classified as 1st group.

another user with 736 posts is in the 2nd group (<200) ?!?!

Am I missing something? It appears that is working but with a totally diferent scale.

See ladder grou suppose you have like this

Newbie - 0
Groupie - 50
senior - 100
mod - 200

then by signing up ur directly put in newbie
after 50th post, u go 2 groupie so any no between 00 and 50 will be newbie
after 100th post its senior so between 50 and 100 it will bwe groupie only.

IF you do not make it a non ladder group.

Hope this helps.....
let me know if i  misunderstood it

Everything is setup correctly.

I have

newbie 0
groupie 50
senior 200
mod 500
guru 1000

(not exactly with those names because it's not an english board)

Then at the board I  have users with > 700 posts as groupies, with > 100 as newbies ?!?!?!

It's not that  I didn't understand how to setup the whole thing. It's a strange behavior...
I did convert the board from 6.41 to 7.6. Should I setup the user groiups before uploading the posts? I guess somebody has already had this problem as long as they have create new categories and changed category names.

Yesterday I erased all posts (not the users) and converted the board again. No luck! First time I have converted the board and then made the changes at the user groups. No luck also. Last remaining atempt is to erase all users and posts, setup the groups and then convert again... but I call for help cause somebody could help me in between trials.

If I am hearing you correctly, you are trying to convert from an older version of the forum, and then also want to change the ladder groups at the same time.

If this is the case, then this is why you are having problems:

People ONLY get promoted to the next ladder group when they POST.  There is no other way for people to automatically get promoted.  The next time the person posts, they will be promoted, but not before.

This leaves you with a couple options:

  1. Leave it as it is and when users post, they will get promoted automatically.  People who never post will not be promoted.
  2. Manually change their group via the admin panel so that they start in the correct group.  When they post, it will continue to promote them when necessary.

Simply changing the ladder groups will NOT change the groups of your members... until they post.

Thanks,

that explains the behavior I'm getting and why there is only members in the 1st and 2nd group (it's the original groups, since I created 5 now).

I guess it's not perfect since by what you say, you can't make changes to the member groups and expect it to the reflected in real time. There should be an admin option to rebuild user groups, like the sync post option.

Anyhow you've been a great help. Thanks.

Yeah, I had the same issue come up when I created a Lurker group.  When I first started my forum, new members went into a Newbie group and were given 1 star.  I didn't want that, so I created a Lurker group and gave them 0 stars.  I then had to go back and change every account that had 0 posts to the Lurker Group.

Lurker - 0 posts / 0 Stars
Newbie - 1 posts / 1 Faded Star
Newbie - 3 posts / 1 Star
Member - 40 posts / 2 Stars
etc.

It was a pain, but I liked the results better.  Now I can look at the memberlist and see instantly and vividly who has posted and who hasn't.
