If you are seeing a lot of guests, your visitor might be Google.  Version 7.01 can't tell the difference between Google and a guest, but later versions can tell the difference.  And in most cases you want Google to visit.  I means Google is putting you into their search engine.

If you upgrade to version 7.6, you will be able to see if it is Google or a visitor.

Also, you actually WANT a lot of guests.  That means you may be getting more members soo.  People tend to lurk before they join.

If you want to hide a forum from view, then you will need to go into the control panel and change the permissions for that forum.  Change it so that only registered members may view the forum.  You can also check the "Hide Forum if no access" box and it will disappear except for those who are allowed to see it.

Guests will be able to see the main page, but won't be able to get inside.

Unless someone is breaking into your site, a lot of visitors is not a bad thing.  You actually want that in most cases.  If not, then hide the forums using my directions above.
