Is it even possible to install SQL on windows server web edition (2003)? I've tried installing sql server 2000, but the demo installshield simply doesn't run. When I try to run the setup exe it says the program has been disabled .

Now i did read somewhere that service pack 2 has to be installed for it to install. So I did and replaced the old files. Still the same result. Then I went to microsoft.com and searched millions of pages and didn't find anything usefull. Google results said something vague that even with service pack 2 it can't install on web edition.

Will it install on Web? If so, how?

No, you cannot install SQL on Web Edition.

You may not be able to install full SQL but you can install MSDE. I know this for a fact because the company I work for is a software company and our application uses MSDE, and we have had many customers install on web edition.

So I don't think you can even install MSDE, never tried but I highly doubt it
