I'm curious as to how well webwiz runs using an access database.  Is there slow down.  How many people can be logged on at the same time and it run well.  I've been playing with phpbb using mysql and was curious how it will run vs webwiz usiing access.

I think mySQL will run better than access overall, but WWG with access runs 100% a-ok until you get thousands and thousands of posts

Im running access version with approx 50k posts and 600 users (there is on average 5-15 users online at any one time during day).

Havent really noticed any speed problems as of yet.

Wow, how about database corruption/repairs?

It depends highly on the server you use.
If you use a shared server, access will slow down allot faster compared to a dedicated server.

I'm running access:
8325 Posts in 962 Topics in 28 Forum(s)
3586 Forum Members

Integrated download directory into the forum database. Around 130 downloads with image links and text stored in database.

It depends.

Checkout

and you will see there is no definite answer ... other than "you will have problems", be it with concurrent users, large databases, X no. of records etc etc

How large are your databases? I've only had mine running for a couple weeks, version 7.6, and the db is already 3.9 meg with only 2,000 posts and 1,100 members. At this rate I'll be at 100 meg at 50k posts, is that what you're seeing?

I'm a strong supporter of SQL Server because I know what MS Access databases this big can do to the servers. MS Access is the number one problem causer for us. We've had to ask many customers to shift to other hosts because their MS Access database was putting a huge strain on the CPU or memory resources.

MS Access isn't built for this type of load. You can find that straight out of Microsoft's website. SQL Server is built to handle thousands of data transactions a minute quickly and efficiently. You'll see a notable difference in speed if you switch to SQL Server as your backend
