Is it possible in the Forum code to somehow only apply the bad word filter to certain forum categories. Basically, I want one forum/category which is open ONLY to gold and Platinum members to be completely unmoderated including the bad word filter. All other forums should have the bad word filter applied.

It could be done, but would require that you edit the file post_message.asp, locate where the bad word filter is used and change the code so that if forum ID xx is being posted in not to run the post through the bad word filter.
