Do you need to own and be running SQL server software to use the SQL version of WWF? Or can you have it work after just setting up an ODBC connection.

Thank You

You need "access" to a SQL Server .. whether it is on the same machine, in a server farm etc etc.  f you use ODBC  ... then the server you connect to will have to be SQL Server.

OK. I think I understand. You need to be running SQL server software somewhere to run the SQL version of WWF.

My situation is I want to eventually use this commercially for a website that will have approx. 150 users, though not all logging on at the same time. Generally I hear Access can't handle db activity of that nature. Is that true? Is there any official documentation from WWF that suggests which platform (Access or SQL) to use for a certain expected number of users and posts? Suggestions?

Thanks

The SQL version of the forums does a lot of table lookups via Stored Procedures which are generally a lot faster.  Access doesnt support these, hence the two difference versions.  As of version 7.6, the active users online was moved out of the database, this should reduce the chances of database corruption.  You would think that after 10 years, Microsoft wouldve got it right...
