I am interested in the possibility of purchasing IBM Via Voice (http://www.platinum-deal.com/viavoice_nopop.html). I know that the IBM Via Voice will type what you say if you use a microphone. This software is helpful if you don’t want to type a document and would prefer for the word document to type what you say. Does anyone know if the IBM Via Voice could type what someone said on a CD that is inserted in the CD driver on the computer? I am hearing impaired so that's why I would like to have this ability.

If it works through a mic i dont see why you couldnt put the cd in and turn up the speakers and put the mic next to them. If that doesnt work then there is something really wrong

Of course though it does depend on both the quality of your microphone and speakers. Some words may not come out so clearly if there is any noise from the speakers or Mic. But in theory I dont see why it would not work.

The problem with most voice recognition software is it needs training to your voice. You do this by reading story text information that the software gives you to read, into a mic. By doing this the software knows the words you are reading and now will place the sounds you have made to the correct words. The more times you train the software, the more it will get accurate.

This means that if you play a CD into a mic the software may not hear the words correctly and all strange things may go on as it types it on the screen as it will not recognise the voice. The only way you can get round this is to get the person that created the voice on the CD to read and train the software.

I know this is true with office XP professional but I don’t know about IBM Via Voice but most software like this is the same.

Hope this helps you.
