When registering for a new account, how do i stop users from using those symbols (~!@#$%^&*, space)

think those symbols will b removed automatically..

Just a small comment, no they don't it accepts that perfectly well in version 7.7, I have the same problem.

look in the database.. at least, theyre converted to ASCII or whateva

You would need to write some javascript that could spot these characters before submitting the form.

Have a look on some JavaScript sites for some code that could do this type of thing.

You use RegEx to check if there are non-alphanumeric characters in the username and return an error.
