I just upgraded from 6.29 to 7.6 using the migration tool and am experiencing the following errors.

First, my users' group levels seem to be fluctuating somewhat randomly.  I am not sure if this is somehow related to the ladder system conflicting with me 'forcing' a users group level, or if it is evident of a deeper problem.

Second.  When I attempt to compact the database in forum administration I get the following error:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e17'

Database already exists.

/cgi-bin/wwforum/admin/compact_access_db.asp, line 124

Third (not sure if it si relevant) when I first uploaded the script I was getting all sorts of errors and timeouts.  I somehow narrowed it down to the email settings.  I had the same settings (aspmail) as I used in my old forums, but it seemed to be giving me errors.  I switched to CDONTS and the problem has appeared to go away.  BUT I am pretty sure that my site is running on a windows 2003 machine.  Should I be using CDOSYS?  Or is this a case of "if it aint broke dont fix it...?"

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Not really sure what you are on about, in what way is it fluctuating, try reuploading files it may sort out the problem.

2. Looks like it could be the database drivers on the server are not compatible with the online compact and repair. You will need to do this task in MS Access on your own machine.

3. The file that does the actual email sending has not been changed, so more likly a mail server problem, but it CDOSYS is working then stick with it as aspmail will give the errors you mention if there are problems connecting to the mail server. CODNTS uses the local mail server so doesn't has as many problems.

fluctuating groups:  one minute someone will be a newbie and the next minute they will be platinum, without my intervention.  No one has become a moderator or admin yet which is good.  I have the ladders turned on but I figured my settings would override.  Which files should I re upload?

Check your group setups, partculy the ladder settings and the number of posts they post to move between groups.

Thanks.

Question:  If the ladder is setup to make someone a senior member after 500 posts am I able to make someone with 50 posts a senior member by hand?  Or will it conflict with the ladder system?

That won't work, when the user posts a message if they are in a ladder system group the forum will calculate which group they should be in by the number of posts they have made and place them in the corrisponding ladder group.
