I treated myself to a new pair of phones the other day.

They are Sennheiser 590!  AMAZING!  You would think, headphones, pah, same as each other, but holy moly these phones are so good I cant explain.  I literally cant explain how good they are.  Seriously.  Wow.

I completely understand. There is a big difference when you go for quality. My dream headphones have a 3Hz~33,000Hz range... but also cost $1,000... And as such... the "dream headphones" designation

My current pair were the best available (where I lived) when I bought them (almost 8 years ago) and do a decent job, but I'd really like to get a new pair sometime. Imported goods are much more common now, so I wouldn't have much of a problem finding something better.

They're Inkel Pro-monitor YH-I 500's. I wanted to get a nice fat pair of Koss', but there weren't any in the country at the time. (I tried to special order them - couldn't.)

Oh, and speaking of great sound, we did a couple trade shows a while ago, and had some Dynaudio Acoustics studio monitors set up, and holy mother of God! They kicked!

And I really really miss my baby... a Fender Pro 185 guitar amp... sucks in 400 watts, pumps out 150, and shakes the house at 2. At 4 you can hear it down the street...  Personal note: I've been suffering guitar withdrawl for a long time now... and hence, the blathering...

Hopefully Guillian isn't the only musician out there other than myself.

Specs for my phones:

Technical Data:

  • Impedance: 120 Ohm
  • Contact pressure: ca. 2.5 N
  • Weight w/o cable: ca. 270 g
  • Jack plug: 3,5/6,3 mm stereo
  • Transducer principle: dynamic, open
  • Ear coupling: circumaural
  • Cable length: 3 m
  • Frequency response (headphones): 12-38,000Hz
  • THD, total harmonic distortion: < 0,1 %
  • Sound pressure level: 97 dB(SPL)

Man they are good.  I cant imagine a pair of phones costing $1000, I must try them out!

I bought them mainly for my drumming, they let a lot of sound in which is what I wanted.

Holy mother of Jesus! Those look like some mighty fine pieces of magnet! 12Hz~38,000Hz? That's amazing. SPL at 97... yum.

What is SPL?  And whats the human ears hz range?

Some of the details are crazy, does anyone care if it puts 2.5 newtons contact pressure on you?  Lol

Its cool as well, I got another pair of phones, the wires got loose inside and only works out one ear now!  But with these, the cable actualy is detachable from the headphones, so no more loose wire problems, and easy to get replacements cabling.

Cable is so good is ridiculous.  Oxygen free, kevlar plated with gold plated sockets.  I dont think it has much affect on the sound to be honest, but increases durability substantualy.

SPL is Sound Pressure Level, i.e. Decibels.

Human hearing is from about 22,000Hz down to about 20Hz. Check the Maven3D Pro manual for hearing at http://maven3d.com/en/download.asp - http://maven3d.com/en/download.asp

There is some info there on hearing. However, different people are different, and the range varies a little bit from person to person.

Gold is a better conductor. Blah blah blah...

All in all, you've got a nice set of phones there

I'm aching for my guitar... and my nasty mother amp!
